Salem-on-Erie
An Evening at Vine Cliff
Step into one of Western New York's most fascinating—and least-known—stories.
Vine Cliff in Portland, NY / Select Dates in October
For a brief time in the nineteenth century, the quiet countryside surrounding Vine Cliff became the center of an extraordinary experiment. Led by the charismatic Thomas Lake Harris, the Brotherhood of the New Life sought to build what they believed would be an earthly paradise—a community they called Salem-on-Erie.
Today, little of that remarkable story is widely known.
Join us for an evening exploring the history, the people, and the ideals that transformed this corner of Chautauqua County into one of America's most unusual communities.
